Gosh, my first family portraiture… with 8 members of the Lalitha family. It was so very fun and quite an experience for me, to be honest, a bit daunting to work with such a large group. But lucikily, they were super super fun and warm to shoot….. so was the weather! haha. The undeniable star of the show is baby Rafa… so cute and alwez smiling, it’s like every shot - he is there with a smile! The smile is gonna melt a lot of girls in the future. haha.
The location is around the heritage beautiful surroundings of EnO hotel, Penang.
Enjoy this little slideshow…

Thanks to achiet’s invitation, I got the opportunity to shoot the fast-paced belly dancing girls and guy. This graduation cum gathering for belly dancers filled up Tanjung Bungah Hotel’s Ballroom to the brim. I was quite surprised with the amount of dancers in Penang. It sure is bustling with excitement and lotsa dance!
Enjoy the show!
The final batch of the Sunburn series :: titled Sunburnt…… that’s the end product of exposing one’s self to hard-core UV-rays during a tropical mid-day scorching. haha. … dat is 12pm to 1.30pm in the afternoon, under bits n pieces of clouds. oh yes, the sky was immaculately in it’s blue-est best. Without CPL (polarizing lens), it was blue enugh and my buddy, codename Pinky, shot with CPL… just can’t wait to c the extreme bleu-ness of his shots.
It was a task for Michelle to run up n down a lot of times! She has stamina… Luckily the was a tiny shaded part for refuge, which we used as “base” while we exposed our skins to the sun only on “quick runs”. Shoot, hide, shoot, hide. very the gai…
This is a very short action-pack series as we hid more than shoot…
TECH: i shot at 1/60 or less in most of these shots, with the f’s cranking up to 8’s n 10’s to enable to shoot blurred “action”-type shots… lot’s of blind-shooting. den i realise i have a VERY VERY dirty camera sensor. haha. dust everywhere.
This is the 2nd part of the Michelle series.. which was taken shade and sun… a lot of SUN later on the day. The first part was shady, but it got increasingly hot before this troupe decided to cool off in a kopitiam (coffeeshop) later on. All the shots were within a 100m radius, location at Tanjung Bungah.
The processing was done a tad yellowish… i was getting blur d. not very sure how to process after several different “feel”. But was not ez due to the two-face-ness of the climate. one shade, on hot. So in the end decided to mix the yellow-tinted feel with dashes of b/w on Green Channel.
Anways here goes PART II titled Orange Road. okok, it was a title of a manga-turned-anime by the same titile, Kimagure Orange Road… this series has nothing in common except the title and a sweet young lead actress. haha. Enjoy this seriessssss…
End of October and this was my first photo shoot of the month. haha. The day started ominously as the black clouds rolled in… It wasn’t very promising indeed, but we had the go-ahead should it shower. Brave the rain if we must. As the morning progresses, the sun began to made it’s way out from the thinning cloud cover, and later on, shone like it is hign noon - HOT as !!!. Michelle was quite a quiet girl, but any poses or doing things like jumping, she does it so well. And does she grab air when jumping. woah! She also did a LOT of runs and jumps on the beach… no ez lo. Jumping on sand as base is not ez. Bravo to this girl… and stamina is not a problem for her… it is for me. haha.

Enjoy the pics, guys…..
This is the first part shot around suburban housing area of Pulau Tikus. The morning shower is evident in this shot.
Well, since we were shooting Siew Tien in the darkness of an alley next to Stan Chart Penang… manage to process this photo for a one-off-non-series picture, just for kicks……. since the background looki looki like abit of “Gotham-esque”…
This picture no strobe ar… using our TNB-provided street lighting only. hehee.

Alwez a fan of Frank Miller’s art… hopefully we don’t get to c Penang version of “300″ ya? whahahaha.
Strobing… something that I’ve never really tried after years and years of almost no-flash photography. It has suddenly hit me outta the blue! It started when I went to buy this china-made flash-radio-trigger and reciever - to test just for fun… then it suddenly open a whole new pandora box. One thing lead to another, and the past two photo-shoots - one at the beach earlier - we dedicated the ending phase to off-shoe flash photography… the results were … I think ok laaa…haha… but what it did was fanning the urge to find out more about this area of photography that I sorely lack in.
“You use flash meh? Tiok check kiaaa” - Michelle was so surprised she jumped in surprisation.

TECH : 3-offshoe flash… Left power light, one centre and one fill on the right. No edit at all sans cropping.
Then later on the weekend, we dedicated a night photography on strobing only…
Rather run-and-gun, but this is hopefully a beginning to something new in me and my buddies’ arsenal.
Here is the … haha.. rather cliche placement of lights….. but it sure is a good learning process…ban ban lai (slowly slowly learn).
Penang’s Zebra crossing never had it so bright…..Siew Tien doing a Beyonce-strut down the lines.

TECH : 2-flash, one following SiewTien on her right and one behind her. No edit at all.
Our offshoe-flash-virgin gang trying out…

and another Heroes-inspired group shoot…… hwhahahahaha….. I am the lang-chia-pek.

TECH : 4-lights.. one main, behind cam and left, casting chainlink shadows on us. one SB800 bottom, just under cam. two via SU-4 mode (flash on detect another flash strobe) on each end of the doors.
Till the next time, hopefully you guys will c more stuffs coming out from this eye-opening discovery. haha.. about time, I think. Strobe like Crazy!!!!!!
